Julie Vernon produces contemporary handcrafted mosaics working with a mix of materials from vitreous glass and ceramic through to natural marble and slate. Materials are skilfully cut and shaped by hand which in turn makes each design unique and a one off.
She often incorporates individual pieces of vintage porcelain or worn down ceramic found washed ashore British beaches. These pieces give the work a greater depth with each fragment holding a hidden history or journey of its own.
As well as exhibiting and selling her own work she also undertakes private commissions and is involved in a wide range of community arts projects.
She was selected as a finalist in the 2011 Craft and Design Awards and is now a professional member of the British Association for Modern Mosaic.
