Exciting things have been happening in the studio this year as I experiment and prepare a new collection of textured wall art especially for London Craft Week. I will be heading down to London next week 9 - 12 May where my work will be part of a curated exhibition 'The Future of Craft' in the iconic Bargehouse building, Oxo Tower Wharf. This vast four story building will be alive with textiles, furniture, ceramics, lighting , metal work and interior accessories from some of the UK's leading makers. You will be able to find me in room 11 as part of the Design-Nation showcase!
My new collection comes in 4 muted colourways - blue, green, grey and polar white with a depth of shadow and tone. These have beendesigned with interior spaces in mind. Working in unglazed French porcelain every piece is cut by hand and each strand individually placed into a bed of cement to create a wall piece full of movement and texture. To compliment the collection I have created a mosaic in a reclaimed motor cycle wheel and believe the raw, industrial setting of the Bargehouse is the perfect backdrop to this work.
To gain an insight into the make, here are a couple of quick time-lapse videos...
The process is far from quick however - over 200 individual pieces go into each work!
